Together by Julie Cohen #bookreview

I was recommended this book, purely on it’s epic twist and OMG what a twist! Now let me tell you straight – this is not a psychological thriller – not a book where you are trying to figure out who killed who but there is an underlying feeling the whole way through the book that something is wrong but you can’t quite figure out what it is.

Cohen’s beautiful and absorbing prose draw you in as it opens with an old couple’s love affair ending under a shocking dark cloud. This story is then told backwards, revealing a different section of  of their lives every decade or so. The further back, you go the more intertwined you become in their love story and you realise what they both have given up to be together.

Romance or Contemporary Women’s Fiction isn’t my go-to genre but the more I read, the more I like and Together is the cream of the crop! Literary Fiction eat your heart out!

Characters that are real, raw and flawed and a plot that moves seamlessly, even though it jumps through time. If the ending doesn’t completely shock and make you question how you view romance, then you clearly have a heart of stone.

Make sure you have the tissues at the ready.

Soon to become the nation’s firm favourite!
