A fantastic debut thriller that has set the bar high for the rest of the series!
Now You See begins from the first person perspective of the very first victim of a serial killer stalking people streets of London and then the narrative voices twist and change over various perspectives. I loved the setting and connected with a lot of the places described, which really added to the tension and mystery of the book. Also the use of social media by the killer that intertwines with the murders, makes the plot very relatable and very clever.
The two main characters were really interesting and carried the story incredibly well. Sometime you get a great plot but dull or annoying characters or great characters and a unbelievable or uninteresting plot. In Now You See, you get both! The main characters are Fenton the police detective struggling as a single father after the death of his wife and Blake the troubled crime reporter devastated after witnessing the brutal killing of his colleague. Black is definitely a very interesting character!
Pacy and well written, this is definitely a book worth reading for any crime lover. The story takes many twists and turns, Genuinely didn’t have a clue about the killer’s identity. Feel like I need to read it again to look for clues I missed.
Overall, I really enjoyed Now You See. Max Manning understands how to create a truly gripping plot, pulling the reader in at just the right moment so that you can’t not know what happened. I would recommend this book to all the crime bloggers I know, especially because it’s the first in a new series, which is always exciting!
